Mouth ulcer is the loss or erosion of part of the delicate tissue that lines the inside of the mouth. The cause can be accidental biting of the cheek, burns from eating hot food, poor oral hygiene, irritation from strong antiseptics such as a mouthwash, oral thrush infection. It’s worse if accompanied by other illnesses.The symptoms of mouth ulcer are a round sore or sores inside the mouth, swollen skin around the sores, irritation of sores by salty, spicy or sour foods.
In most cases, mouth ulcers are harmless and resolve by themselves in a few days without the need for medical treatment. However, below are some simple thing you can do to lessen your pain:
- Avoid spicy and sour foods until the ulcers heal
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Regularly rinse your mouth out with warm, slightly salted water
- Keep the mouth clean
- Apply antiseptic gel to the ulcers
- Take pain-killing medication
- Use a medicated mouthwash
To help yourself free from mouth ulcer attack, these are some necessary prevention tips:
- Brush your teeth at least twice every day
- Floss regularly
- Brush your teeth very gently, taking care not to slip with the brush
- Eat a well balanced and nutritious diet
- Visit your dentist regularly
