What to Do if You Fall (Experience Based)

The last 3 days, my friend, Julie, fell off the stairs. She hurt her right ankle. At first, (according to her) it wasn’t badly injured. But when I visited her after work, yesterday, it was rather blue and swollen as big as an apple (well, ok, I’m a bit exagerating ;) ).

This morning I took her to the doctor. Actually I insisted. At the beginning, she refused going ’cause she thought she was fine.

From what I saw, she was far from being fine! She started limping while walking.

So, there was no other way, I told her my own experience when I hurt my leg a few years ago. And it worked. She finnally stop refusing to go to the doctor.

Well, actually it’s ok not to go to the doctor if you hurt your leg or ankle or anything out of falling, as long as

  • The pain doesn’t continue after seceral days of self-care.
  • You don’t feel sharp, shooting pain at rest (sitting and sleeping).
  • You can walk without limping.
  • You can’t see or feel any deformity (possible fracture).
  • You don’t feel unusual numbness or tingling in your knee, lower leg or foot (possible circulation problems).
  • It’s blue and cold (possible circulation problems).
  • It’s red and hot and you have a fever (possible infection).

I hope she and I’ll never have to go through that again!

How to avoid that feeling?

It’s easy, just love yourself no matter what. Here are what I do whenever I start feeling uneasy about myself:

  • I ask my pals about what they like about me
  • I make a list of what I like about myself

Are you my neighbor?

This morning I decided to spend sometime in Starbucks. I thought I could use some yummy milk tea to ease my day. I took a sit next to the window. Then, suddenly a man came to me with a big smile on his face.

“Hi, I think I know you. Are you my neighbor?” At first I was a bit scared. He could be a bad person trying to fool me then rob me!

I guessed he knew how I felt. He told me where he lived…and yes, we live in the same apartment. I’d never seen him before. How would I know that he also lived there?

He said he often saw me going out of the apartment in the morning while he was going home from work. He worked in a radio station and often got the night shift. Well, living in an apartment once made me think that there was no way I could enjoy a neighbor’s company. But now, I’ve just got one!

Hello, Neighbor!

Such a Smart, Passionate Cat

Reading this made me remember my cat back when I was little. His name was Snowy because he was totally white. Besides, I was also a bit influenced by Tintin, one of my favorite comics.

Snowy saved my life a lot…by waking me up every morning. Thanks to him, I never missed my schoolbus.

I love you so much, Snowy!

Liquid for Your Health

Do you know that any liquid food such as smoothies, fruit juice or soup are good for your health?

They cut the toxin off your body. They also reduce the retention of liquid in your body.

How come?

The lesser the use of energy to digest food, the more energy left for your body to clean up and the result is that there’ll be more liquid out of your body.

Isn’t it easy to be healthy?

Say No to Trans Fat!

Recent study showed that the content of fat in fast food is varied from one country to another. The fat in US is higher than that in some countries in Europe.

However high or low the fat is, especially if it’s trans fat, it’s not good for your health. Trans fat raises bad cholesterol and lowers good cholesterol. Eating just 5 grams of it per day increases the risk of heart disease 25 percent.

What’s trans fat anyway?

It’s a kind of fat resulted from partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, cooking oil that has been injected with hydrogen to harden it and give it a longer shelf life.

It’s great for the industry but it’s harmful for our hearts and blood vessels.

Therefore, in Denmark, under a 2004 law, they allow only a minuscule amount of trans fat in foods. In US, the Department of Health and Human Services declared that as per January 1st, 2006, trans fat must be listed on food labels.

So, it’s easier for you to avoid trans fat now. Actually, by reducing the intake of fast food or any food containing trans fat, not only you can decrease your heart disease risk, but it also can help you lose weight.

The most famous elephant in Sri Lanka named Raja got sick for eating too much candy, chocolate and other rich food given by the people coming to see him on the Buddhist new year celebrations.

He might be getting infections as he ate food he wasn’t supposed to. Elephants eat plants. Their digestion can’t support processed food.
