How to Keep Your Bagel Fresh

Bagels taste best fresh once it’s out of the oven. Some dieters consume bagels to keep them going.

If you want to keep your bagel fresh in within five or seven days before you consume it, this is how to do it:

  • allow your bagels to cool in a paper bag
  • store them in a freezer in a closed paper bag
  • make sure it is wrapped tightly inside a larger, plastic bag*
  • to thaw, moisten lightly with cool water and toast or bake
  • bagels freeze well for up to six months.

Some people omit the paper bag and just freeze their bagels in a plastic bag.

Have Broccoli for the Weekend!

I’ve always liked broccoli even before I knew that it’s one of the best vegetables to avoid cancer.

How? It surely is

  • vitamin-rich (A & C, both are antioxidant)
  • high in fiber (for colone cancer)
  • indole-carbinol-rich (to help ward of breast tumor)

Olive Oil Fiesta!

As we all know, olive oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the fruit of the Olive tree (Olea europaea L.), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin [Wikipedia]. It is also known that people living in countries around the Mediterranean had a lower incidence of heart disease. Researches proved that it was a result of oil olive consummation.

Actually, olive oil is not only good for your heart but also has other health benefit such as:

  • prevention to colon cancer
  • defense against diabetes
  • help againts arthritis
  • a painkiller

Mouth Ulcer: Prevention and Treatment

Mouth ulcer is the loss or erosion of part of the delicate tissue that lines the inside of the mouth. The cause can be accidental biting of the cheek, burns from eating hot food, poor oral hygiene, irritation from strong antiseptics such as a mouthwash, oral thrush infection. It’s worse if accompanied by other illnesses.The symptoms of mouth ulcer are a round sore or sores inside the mouth, swollen skin around the sores, irritation of sores by salty, spicy or sour foods.
In most cases, mouth ulcers are harmless and resolve by themselves in a few days without the need for medical treatment. However, below are some simple thing you can do to lessen your pain:

  • Avoid spicy and sour foods until the ulcers heal
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Regularly rinse your mouth out with warm, slightly salted water
  • Keep the mouth clean
  • Apply antiseptic gel to the ulcers
  • Take pain-killing medication
  • Use a medicated mouthwash
  • To help yourself free from mouth ulcer attack, these are some necessary prevention tips:

    • Brush your teeth at least twice every day
    • Floss regularly
    • Brush your teeth very gently, taking care not to slip with the brush
    • Eat a well balanced and nutritious diet
    • Visit your dentist regularly

Any Childhood Memory?

It’s always nice to take a moment to recall all our childhood memories. The funny ones, or the sad ones, even the embarassing ones.

How many memories do you have?

One, two, three? Or many?

Sometimes, some old photo albums or videos are such big helps in memorizing all the childhood events. But, what if those albums or videos are gone? What’s left in our memory? Zero!

So, now, how to keep them in mind without having to depend on the albums and videos?

Story-telling. If you have children, try to always gather with them and encourage them to tell you what they have been through the whole day. The next days, ask them again about the experience. That makes a great exercise!

What if you’re not a child anymore, yet you prefer to keep your present memories in mind? Yet, you feel embarassed to talk about certain experiences with others?

Write a diary or in this world of high technology like now, why don’t you blog?

You know what, writing is a great brain sport!

Bird Flu: 54 People in Indonesia Are in Quarantine

Indonesia is one of the countries with many deadly H5N1 avian influenza victims.

The UN agency said the number of people in Indonesia in quarantine had increased to 54. They are in quarantine because they may have come into contact with a family decimated by bird flu.

Besides, some experts also suspect that the flu might be caught from human-to-human contact.
