Healthy Blogger This Week!

This week, the award goes to Rox in The City. She deserves the award because she seemed to manage passing her ‘Kicking Class’ very well and she is now about to start her Grading Class.

Not only that, she is soon gonna be able to do the proper push-up, not the girly one. And, she seems to be determined about it.

For you, push-up beginners, you need to look up to this lovely lady’s strong will. Yet, you can start with wall push-up. Then you can try bench push-up. If you think you’re strong enough, it might be time for you to try the non-girly one.

To be honest, I still can’t manage to do the proper push-up yet. Maybe I’m just easily satisfied. However, my muscles are all nicely built. Well, it shouldn’t stop me from trying to do the push-up properly, right?

So, let’s now, get the spirit of Rox in The City and be healthier!

Have a great weekend!

Resistance Band for Your Muscles

Bored with dumbels? Don’t let it stop you from exercising. You can use the resistance band to replace dumbels.

Basically, the function of resistance bands is the same with the function of dumbels. When you pull out the band, your muscle will work very hard to resist it so it doesn’t get stretched.

Yet, by using resistance bands, you can avoid having bulky muscles. It will only tone your muscle not make it bigger.

Have you had one yet?

Things to Avoid to Prevent Sinus Attack

Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria. It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants. When you have a cold or allergy attack, your sinuses become inflamed and are unable to drain. This can lead to congestion and infection.

So, what can you do to avoid sinus attack?

  • Avoid drinking alcohol since it causes nasal and sinus membranes to swell
  • Try not to swim in pools treated with chlorine. It can irritate the lining of the nose and sinuses
  • Do not dive. It can force water into the sinuses from the nasal passages
  • Avoid cigarette smoke and other irritants that may aggravate your sinus condition
  • Avoid dust, pollen, mold, or any foods that trigger allergies such as foods with MSG, nitrited meats, fermented foods, aged and ripened cheeses, etc.
  • Avoid air travel. If you must fly, use a nasal spray decongestant before take-off to prevent blockage of the sinuses allowing mucus to drain

Hope these tips can help Bchai.

Flying with Kids: Preventing Their Ears from Getting Hurt

When my son was two years old, I had to take him travel by air to visit my Mom for Christmas. At that time, we didn’t live in the same town.

Everything was all settled and I was so well prepared that I thought there would be no single problem with him.

But I was apparently totally wrong. He was screaming out loud when the plane was taking off. At first, I was kind of embarrassed. But a little bit later, I was terribly worried ’cause he kept crying and saying that his ears were in pain.

Thankfully the stewardess was so nice to us. She gave water to help my son swallow more which might help him get his ears popped to relieve the pain.

From that time, I got more prepared with things to help him stay away from ear pain during takeoffs instead of worrying about what to bring for the holiday.
My son had no ear infection. Yet it was painful enough. My friend’s son had it and the pain seemed to be a lot worse during the flight. That’s why, most of the time, doctors recommend delaying flying, if possible, until the infection is gone.

Yet, there are ways you can do to prevent your kids’ ears from getting hurt during the flight:

  • Drink water a lot to encourage them to keep swallowing
  • Chew gum or suck on hard candy (only if your child is older than 3 years)
  • Stay awake for takeoff and landing so they can keep swallowing. When you sleep you don’t swallow that much.
  • Breastfeed them if you still do.
  • Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen about a half hour before takeoffs or landings

Fasting, It’s Just Not about Food

Ginny once wrote a piece about fasting entitled “It’s Just Not about Food.”

She’s right. According to what the Moslems believe, when they are fasting, it’s not only about giving up food and drink, it’s more like training their soul.

I have mentioned earlier that not only fasting can help their physical health but it also can help their mental health.

By fasting, Moslems are training the soul, learning self-restraint, self-control, and patience. This way, they learn to see life in a more peaceful way. It will end them up to reduce the risk of getting stressed out which will get them to become mentally healthy.

Briefly, just like in other religions, such as Christian or Jew, fasting is always positive in result.
