The beginning of periods is a momentous event in a girl’s life. She might feel happy about it, or she might be shy.
To prepare your pre-teen for this special thing, start before the age of 12. On average, most girls start their periods when they’re 12 or 13 years old. Yet, some begin earlier or later. The sooner you explain it, the better. Don’t wait until she gets it.
So, what to explain?
- how it happens, what is going on in her body that causes this period
- how long it will last
- what to do when they have it, what to put on
Nowadays, girls are having periods in such an early age. This can be caused by obesity and early-life exposure to hormone-disrupting chemicals.
