Keeping a Healthy Mind

An active mind is a healthy mind, so keeping your mind sharp is a good portion of aging well and living a better life as you grow older. If you continue to challenge and engage your brain with activities such as continued learning and healthy dieting you can maintain your healthy brain.

Some activities like completing daily crossword puzzles or learning a hobby, or maybe exploring a new language will add content and continued exercise of the brain. Expanding your horizons daily and engaging in activities that require you to think on your feet and assess information quickly and accurately will make a world of difference as you grow older. Sometimes it may take a little more effort than it used to require, but continuing to stretch your brain muscles will definitely pay off in good memory and cognitive skills.

Physical activity has always been know to have positive effects on the brain and brain functioning. Getting into an aerobic regime is the best for continued brain health as oxygen is free flowing and throughout the body and is particularly beneficial to the brains proper functioning.

So to slow down the effects of the degenerative parts of the brain it would be wise to learn to concentrate and make an honest effort to pay attention. Stay organized and don’t rush, so that you are able to focus on the tasks that you are attempting. The all time favorite is repetition. So do whatever it takes to preserve your mental agility, and keep happy even as you enter your older years.

Dealing With Stress From Work

Stress. What stress? Sometimes we can get so stressed out that we don’t even notice it ourselves. It becomes part of the daily grind; and who has time for it anyway…you’ve got things to do, right? This may be true but if you do not mange your stress properly it will begin to manage you. Major sources of stress are related to work activities. Issues with competency, uncertainty, and communication can cause us to stress out daily at work and spill over into the home.

Good time management skills and leaving your job at the office and don’t give up any of your free time to catch up on work if you don’t have to. Ahhh…a little relief. Know when to quit. If you are truly unhappy with your job think about changing careers and spend time researching other possibilities. Ahhhhhhhh…even more relief. Engage in much more physical activity to reduce stress and get fit so you are at least more equipped to handle stressors. Ahhhhhhhhh… it is relaxing even more. And last but not least take a vacation if needed and recharge by doing something that you really enjoy. Vacation! Ultimate relaxation achieved.

The point here is to find ways to relax yourself. Ultimately there is no one to take better care of you than you. If you find that you are experiencing more tension than you can handle take immediate action to resolve whatever it is that is causing you so much stress and work on eliminating or decreasing them.

Stress can be the single cause of depression, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, and reek havoc on your family or behavior. Don’t allow the advances in technology to separate you from your family and friends. Disconnect from cell phones and the internet and separate your time from the employers’ time. Begin to enjoy the time you spend alone or with family and friends, enjoy that long book, take that weekend get away that you’ve been putting off for months.

Chocolate Could Prevent Heart Diseases

An every day ratio of dark bitter chocolate could help prevent heart diseases, according to a study realized by a team of Swiss researchers. The Swiss researchers say that the anti-oxidants from chocolate could prevent the blood veins to become smaller and less wide.

The research team came to this conclusion after testing on a group of 20 volunteers, which were smokers without health problems. The subjects were asked not to eat any types of aliments rich in anti-oxidants such as apples, onion and cabbage and after that they were given 40 grams of different types of chocolate.

Two hours after consuming the chocolate, the echo-graph showed that black chocolate, with a cocoa percent of at least 74%, significantly improved the blood flow. Additionally, ulterior tests showed that the risk of encountering blood accidents and blockages has been decreased to half of the initial risk. However, white chocolate did not achieve similar effects. The researches that performed the study say that dark chocolate contain the biggest quantity of anti-oxidants for one gram than any other products like red vine, green tea or forests fruits.

Chocolate is indeed an aliment that has many anti-oxidant elements in it. But it also contains fats and glucoses in huge quantities. So, it can cause weight problems if excessively consumed.

The best thing to do is to adjust your chocolate portion to your actual weight and to the amount of physical effort you make everyday. Persons that are involved in a great deal of effort can consume chocolate without fearing weight problems. But the ones that don’t, like people working in offices, sitting all day on a chair and not doing any kind of sports are confronted with a big problem if they eat too much chocolate. If the organism doesn’t call for sweets, like it does when we are cold, tired or worn out, then the chocolate use should be reduced to a minimal portion a day.

We can just have whatever kind of T shirt we want, and we can put any kinds of pictures and wordings we want. One example is this T shirt Man that provide services for printing and embroidering T shirts, Polo shirts, baseball caps, and more.

If you are good at designing, you can also have your own design printed on those T shirts. The easier and better way is to design T shirt online.  If you don’t find any interesting with their collection of artwork, you can find any other images from anywhere else and upload them to this online designing application. That way, we don’t need to concern about file format transfer or whatever. The steps are easy for anybody: choose product, add artwork, add words, and add names.

Usually this kind of printing T shirt stuff is for kids, which usually they have their own photos printed on the T shirt.  But, if one of the stores has some images we like, it’s quite a great idea to have a custom T shirt that no other will also have.

Measuring Your own Cholesterol Levels

There are actually five different ways to measure for a complete reading on your own cholesterol levels and they are: total, HDL, LDL, total/HDL ratio, LDL/HDL ratio. These measurements are actually categorized as desirable, borderline, and of course, at risk. Measurement units are milligrams per deciliter. It is extremely misleading to consider any of them on their own. Consult your health practitioner to best understand your cholesterol levels and what, if anything, to do about them or how to maintain them properly.

Here is how it really works in the numbers. Total desirable is below 200 mg/dL, total borderline level is 200 to 240 and total risk above level 240. HDL ideal level is above 45 mg/dL, HDL borderline is 35 to 45 and HDL at risk below 35. LDL ideal level is below 130 mg/dL, LDL borderline is 130 to 160 and LDL at risk above 160. Total/HDL ideal ratio is below 4.5, total/HDL borderline is 4.5 to 5.5 and total/HDL at risk is above 5.5. LDL/HDL ideal ratio is below 3, LDL/HDL borderline is 3 to 5 and LDL/HDL and at risk is above 5. Whew! That is a lot of numbers!

What all of that shows is that one very important set of numbers that you will want to bear in mind as you face your own cholesterol levels is that every milligram per deciliter makes a very large difference: with a 10 mg/dL drop in your overall cholesterol comes an approximate 40 percent decrease in risk of heart disease. Isn’t that a good enough reason for you to want to do something about it?

When it comes to actually doing something about your cholesterol levels, a balanced diet, combined with a good fitness regimen is your best bet in combating high cholesterol. You have to be both active and eat right to maintain the right balance. You can look to the my pyramid charts as a means of being sure that your eating habits are balanced. Supplements of vitamins will not be able to compensate for your poor eating. You have to eat whole foods for any of this to be effective, and you must lay off of heavy fatty foods and junk food to keep your cholesterol balanced.
